Safaricom Chapa Dimba: Ikolomani’s Musasa FC hopes against hope

Football is a powerful sport. It has the powers to bring communities together, end conflicts and bring joy to people. It can and has changed lives.27-year old Hanington Shilaho knows this too well. He was in Qatar for the World Cup in 2022 working temporarily and witnessed the power football. Before heading there, he was an active footballer featuring the Shaviringa United in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Division Two League, Western Zone. He came back to Kenya in January 2023 somewhat unfit to continue playing football competitely and hence decided to coach local lads in their daily kickabouts in Ikolomani, Kakamega. And that is how Musasa FC was born. “It has been an eye-opening experience for me. They are very young boys aged 20 and below but very passionate on football and hungry for success. I saw the power of football in Qatar during the World Cup and I am just doing my best to give hope to these kids from Ikolomani.” Shilaho tells Mozzart Sport. The lads have been hungrier to prove their worth after that and hence for the upcoming Safaricom Chapa Dimba Tournament. “The main aim is to expose my area boys’ talent and I am optimistic that several of them will be part of the final squad that will travel to Europe for a football camp. That would really mean alot to me as I would have played a part in changing their lives. Chapa Dimba has a reputation of kick-starting and elevating the careers of young footballers from the grassroots level and I’m hoping this will be a great start for some of the talented kids at Musasa FC if not all,” Shilaho, who is now a CAF D licensed coach says.
