Ulinzi Starlets shift focus to elusive league title

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women’s Cup champions Ulinzi Starlets are looking to make amends as they look to win the 2022/23 league title. The Joseph Wambua Mwanza-coached military side, on Sunday 4 June played their second Cup final against Nakuru Queens winning 3-1 to defend the title. Ulinzi Starlets humble Nakuru Queens to defend FKF Women’s Cup titleThis is the second gong for the soldiers, having won the inaugural trophy in 2021 against four-time league champions Vihiga Queens. Wambua, while admitting that the team had failed in their quest for a double says they will regroup and go for what would be their maiden league title. “We are grateful for the Cup title defense as this is the only silverware we can thank our employer with. We now turn our focus on the new league. I have to congratulate Vihiga Queens for defending the title. We were in this race together and they were the better side. While we wish them well in their continental assignments. The title champions in that season was determined in a playoff and the soldiers lost in the semis to Nakuru Queens who had gained promotion the same season.##NAJAVA_MECA_7298554##The following season saw Wambua’s charges fight unsuccessfully to win the title in the season that was partly run by the caretaker committee. In this season’s race the military side had a slow start to the season and could not keep up with the title contenders Vihiga and Gaspo in the second leg.
