BELMONT, Michigan — Birdies come in bunches at the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give.
Blythefield Country Club has many par-5 holes, which add up to a lot of birdie chances — which many golfers took advantage of during Thursday’s first round.
Five players shared the lead at 6 under, including defending champion Jennifer Kupcho, who birdied 18 to move into a share of the lead.
“I struggled the first couple holes and was able to save par and start hitting some birdies,” Kupcho said. “There are a lot of birdies out there. It is a ball-striker’s course.”
Sharing the lead with Kupcho are Ayaka Furue, Frida Kinhult, Lindsey Weaver-Wright and Cheyenne Knight. One shot back are Amy Yang, Ally Ewing, Emily Pedersen and Alison Lee.
