Protein shakes, check. A driver with 4.5 degrees of loft and irons that are all the same length, check. Let’s do this.
After shooting a disappointing 76, Bryson DeChambeau has some work to do if he wants to make the cut and contend at the 2021 Masters. On Thursday, he seemed to be fooled by the wind on several holes and struggled to handle the uneven lies and slopes at Augusta National. Most importantly, he failed to take advantage of the par 5s.
In the opening round, Justin Rose, the overnight leader, was 4 under on the par fives, carding a par, an eagle and two birdies. In contrast, DeChambeau made a par, a bogey, another par and finally a birdie on the 15th hole. That’s a four-shot swing between Rose and DeChambeau, and Bryson leads the PGA Tour is par 5 Scoring Average!

Hole 1 – Par 4
Well now, this looks promising. On Thursday Bryson hit driver left on the first hole, then blocked his approach shot into the mounds to the right of the green. Today, he opted for a 3-wood off the tee, laying back, short of the bunkers on the right side of the fairway. Then, from 191 yards out on the upslope, he pured his approach shot to 14 feet to set up a realistic birdie chance on the opening hole! His putt was always right of the ideal line, but he tapped in for par.
