A slow start in the FKF Premier League for youngster Moses Shumah couldn’t deter the lad from putting up a stellar second leg performance for his side Kakamega Homeboyz. Roped in from National Super League (NSL) side Mombasa Elites, the lanky forward has seen his side make it to the Mozzart Bet Cup final, and respectable eigth position on the league standings with two matches to close the 2022/23 season. He attributes this to a relentless focus on the end goal whenever he starts a match.Harambee Stars stunned by lowly ranked Mauritius”I always say the end justifies the means. So when the season started and we weren’t getting the points, we had to look at the bigger picture and I’m glad my teammates shared in the vision,” says the 20 year old. Shumah, already decorated at high school level with Laiser Hill Academy, believes there was a lot of pressure at the start of the season due to Homeboyz’s stellar 2021/22 campaign- one that saw them finish second on the table standings. “A majority of us were not part of the previous Homeboyz squad so the pressure was on us to replicate what had already been established. This might also explain the slow start into the season. We weren’t consistent and the fans also felt we were not up to the task. Looking back, I think that pressure helped us. It pushed us to do more in training and more during the games,” he adds.##NAJAVA_MECA_7324441##The former Chapa Dimba MVP recently earned his maiden call up to the national team Harambee Stars and wasted no time netting his first goal for the country against Pakistan. In the second match against Mauritius, he also bagged in some minutes albeit from the bench. He intends to carry this form back to the league and help Homeboyz finish the season on the ascendancy.”It’s an honour to wear the national team colours, always is for any player out there. I was surprised at first when I heard the news but as it sunk in, I realised that the ball was now in my court and I had to return the trust given to me,” he continues. Starting upfront alongside skipper Michael Olunga, Shumah struck in the 15th minute for Harambee against Pakistan. This would be the only goal of the match. The only positive from that Mauritius trip has to be Moses Shumah. Boy grabbed that chance with both hands. The once little known Shumah returns home as a name many football fans will want to see often in the NT roster.#HarambeeStars pic.twitter.com/USbANQi2Ey— Murimi Kipchirnjir (@muriminjirujnr) June 18, 2023 ‘’To win points for the national team brings another kind of morale to any striker out there. I’ve learnt a lot in the camp. Playing against full professionals like the skipper Olunga. I want to carry these lessons back to the league and the upcoming cup final against Tusker,” he concludes.Homeboyz sit eighth on the FKFPL table standings and play Gor Mahia in their next fixture. The Mozzart Bet Cup final against Tusker will be played on 1 July.
