Another year, another 100 million transfer: City aims Gvardiol

In almost every window, Manchester City tends to bring in one top player for top dollar and then, gradually bring in more reinforcements. In 2019/20, the biggest addition was the scorer of the Champions League winning goal Rodri, for 70 million euros (followed by Joao Cancelo for 65 million). In 2020/21, Ruben Dias was paid 70 million euros, and then in 2021/22, the Citizens decided to break the record for a British player and paid 117 million for Jack Grealish. Off course, the biggest (but not the most expensive) transfer came at the start of the 2022/23 season, when Erling Haaland came for ’only’ 60 million, which is mainly due to a low release clause set by former agent Mino Raiola, and City reached their 100 million mark by snapping Kalvin Philips for 40 million. So, who will be the one in the season ahead of us? Meet the 100 million man – Joško Gvardol. #ManCity’s plan is to sign Josko Gvardiol and stick with the four-centre-back plan from the end of the season, rather than bring in a traditional full-back.[via @SamLee]— City Xtra (@City_Xtra) June 21, 2023 The team which will potentially earn all this money is Leipzig, the same team which just sold Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea for 60 million euros and are notoriously famous for its ability to sign young players and develop them into high-selling stars. Gvariol fits in perfectly since he is a center back who can play on the left, something which Manchester City lacks at the moment. Joao Cancelo filled that position, but he already fell out with coach Pep Guardiola and will be sold when he comes back from Munich. It’s not that the absence of a full-back would harm the Spanish tactician, who won the Champions League final with three central defenders at the back, but it would be nice to have a player capable of filling the place if needed. The money would be no problem for the Citizens, and Leipzig, reluctant to sell Guardiol this year, will no be in problem to convince the player to reject Manchester and stay for another season.City are set to release Gundogan and MendyBut City doesn’t stop there. Chelsea has more players than some villages and its inhabitants, so they need to sell too. So, Mateo Kovačić is on the verge of switching clubs but staying in England. Another Croat international is about to be sold for 30 million and will bolster Guardiola’s midfield. He will be especially useful if Illkay Gundogan decides to leave for Barca, as he was seen as the German’s successor. He has turned out 221 times for the Blues, scoring on six occasions and providing 15 assists and has a Champions League with them, along with another three more, won while playing for Real Madrid. ##NAJAVA_MECA_7331236##
