He started out at Thika United, and a year later he crossed over to Ulinzi Stars at the end of 2010, winning the golden boot the following season. After seven years with the military outfit, he resigned from the army in 2017 and left the club. After a tussle between Tusker and Sofapaka, Batoto ba Mungu secured his signature in December 2017, and two years later he signed for KCB, where he lasted for a season before he moved to Bidco United. His coach has lauded the former Harambee Stars striker as he bows out. Waruru is expected to start against Wazito FC in a league match at the Thika Sub-County Stadium in what will be his last competitive match. It will also be a befitting sendoff for the player to bow out in his home town.”Sahin Waro, as you bring to an end your playing career today, I wish you well. You are a true legend in the game,a dedicated team player, and a fantastic captain, always leading and guiding the team through thick and thin. Working with you as my captain has been a pleasure. You are always listening and passing on my message to the team. We will miss your leadership on the pitch, but we will surely not miss your leadership in the game. All the best, bro. Enjoy your next assignment,” Akhulia said in a Facebook post.EXCLUSIVE Bidco United striker Stephen Waruru is set to retire after today’s league match against Wazito FC.The 2011 KPL golden boot winner turned out for Thika United, Ulinzi Stars, Sofapaka, KCB and United during his 13-year long top-flight career.#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/YusZBiKbtx— Ole Teya (@TeyaKevin) June 21, 2023 In a separate interview, Akhulia praised the player for being the positive energy in the team and also for guiding the younger players.”He is a good player, a great leader, and an exceptional human being.
