History will be on the line this Saturday as the 2022-23 football season in the country draws to a conclusion at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi. After a grueling phase of knock-out football, two topflight teams remain; Kakamega Homeboyz and 12-time FKFPL champions Tusker FC.It’s time Brewers ⏳Join us for the final one of this season 🏟 #Brewers4life #MozzartBetCup#Finals pic.twitter.com/HvuIoQtx7a— 🏆Tusker FC (@tusker_fc) July 1, 2023 One team – the visitors, will hope to be on the right side of history as they seek to claim their first piece of silverware under head coach Patrick Odhiambo. On the other side, a hungry Brewers side, who saw the season league title slip through their fingers in the last weeks leading up to the final weekend last Sunday, have one thing in mind – and that is to put everything behind them and win what could end up to be their most crucial game this season. With a win, either side gets to represent the country in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup. As it would be, both sides last week landed their CAF licenses to participate in the competition from the Football Kenya Federation.“We want to be in the best mood possible as we head to the big final against Tusker,” Odhiambo – the man who took over the reign at Homeboyz mid season said after one of his giant killing exploits against the league champions Gor Mahia a fortnight ago. “We have been on a long, tough journey and finishing it in the best way will be best for us. We are dreaming and yearn to represent Kenya in the continental championships – CAF Confederation Cup.”A long journey for Homeboyz would be an understatement as they have gone on to produce some fine shocks; stunning Gor Mahia in the Round of 16s, to smashing Kariobangi Sharks for six, before coming all the way to squeeze past AFC Leopards in Nairobi.“This cup is very important because it will be a historical moment if we win it,” Odhiambo said pre-game. “It is going to be the first trophy for the club and also for a majority of the players currently with us and that is why it is a very important match for us.”📍Kasarani Stadium#MozzartBetCup Finals takes center stage this Saturday.#TuskervsKKHomeboyz pic.twitter.com/9sATnpzHC6— Mozzart Bet Cup (@FKFCup) June 27, 2023 Tusker, on the other hand, have had regular wins over KCB and Ulinzi Stars leading up to the final, captain Humphrey Mieno stating; “We have to go there and fight for it for it’s the only title left in the season. We have to show character and a big mentality.”“The goal is to redeem ourselves through this one (final) and there are no two ways about it. The approach we are taking is to play and win the match. We expect a hard game against Kakamega Homeboyz and we will win that hard game because that is the standard we, Tusker, are at. We beat tough teams,” Tusker head coach Robert Matano vowed.Whatever happens, the 1500 EAT kickoff will be one to savor with the offseason coming soon and fast.##NAJAVA_MECA_7347262##Preceding the final will be the small matter of who finishes in third, as AFC Leopards, who will be without their head coach Patrick Aussems, take on Ulinzi Stars at 1200 EAT.
