Recently retired midfielder Anthony Muki Kimani opines that the high turnover of coaches in the national team is mainly to blame for Harambee Stars’ stagnation over the years.Kimani played his last competitive match in June as the 2022/23 Football Kenya Federation Premier League wrapped up, coming off the bench for Nairobi City Stars in the decisive game against Gor Mahia on the final day at the Kasarani Stadium.Speaking during an interview on One on One, the midfielder offered that there is a need to give enough time to a coach at the national team level to ensure he has a better understanding of his team.##NAJAVA_MECA_7358671##In the last decade, Harambee Stars has had nine coaches at the helm with none of them taking charge for more than three years.According to Muki, if we allow one coach enough time to assemble and know the team inside out, the country stands to benefit.”The high turnover of the coaches is the main reason why the national team does not perform well. We do not have our own style or identity as a country. When a coach comes in, he comes in with his own system and that makes it hard for us to move. But if we maintain one coach and give him time I believe we will achieve. He will have the time to know the players and use them accordingly.” Kimani said. The former Bandari FC midfielder partly believes that is the reason he was not a mainstay in the team.He was capped 10 times between 2010 and 2013, a time when the national team changed tacticians a couple of times with Francis Kimanzi, Zedekiah Otieno, Henri Michel, James Nandwa, and Adel Amrouche taking charge in different stints.”As much as there are many players playing in different positions, the high turnover of coaches also affects who gets called up and it happened in my case I believe. Every coach has a distinct playing style that tends to favor certain players and thus will go for those kinds of players because they know they will fit in his style well. That is one thing that has affected consistency in who gets called up,” he added.Dennis Ng’ang’a’s technical prowess in effectively marshaling Gor’s backline last seasonCurrently, Harambee Stars is led by Coach Engin Firat who has been in charge of the team since 2021, with the team ranked 105 as per the latest FIFA rankings.
