33 injured, 25 hospitalized after deck collapses at Montana golf club

At least 33 people were injured after a deck collapsed at a Montana country club Saturday, police and news reports said.

The incident happened during a popular golf tournament.

The Billings Police Department responded to a report of a patio collapse in Billings at around 7:50 p.m. local time, where they found multiple people injured, the department said in a statement on Facebook.

Billings police Lt. Matt Lennick said there were no fatalities at the time, but a “large number of individuals” were taken to local hospitals.

In a Sunday update, Billings police said 25 adults were taken to local hospitals, eight people were treated at the scene and later released and an unknown number “walked away without treatment.”

The incident occurred at the Briarwood Golf and Country Club, KTVQ-TV reported.

Dr. Clint Seger, CEO of the Billings Clinic, said in a statement that the hospital received six patients and was expecting another three. Another Billings Clinic official said 11 victims were taken to its hospital, The Billings Gazette reported.

“We have multiple trauma surgeons, ER physicians and the ER team along with critical care staff on site receiving patients,” Seger said in the statement. “We are thankful for all of the responders working on these units, those that were called in to respond with the additional units and the hospital staff at both hospitals,” Lennick said.
