Lio reflects on MOFA’s season, tips them to gain promotion

Micheal Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) coach George Lio has hailed his charges for putting up an impressive run since he took over the league at the start of the second leg.Lio joined the Homabay club following a short stint at Division One outfit Balaji EPZ at a time the team was deep in relegation zone with only nine points to its name and was tasked with ensuring they avoid the chop, a fate the former Vihiga Bullets tactician achieved; finishing tenth on the league standings on 29 points.Why City Stars attacker Kelvin Etemesi turned down lucrative offers“We have completed the season and I must say my target has been achieved. I came when we were lowly ranked but we have managed a 10th place finish & avoided relegation,” he opened.Since linking up with the Harambee Stars captain Micheal Olunga-owned club the experienced gaffer took to the dugout twelve times, recording five wins, five draws and lost twice in his first four months with the ambitious club even as he had to survive on a lean squad of thirteen players as majority of his troop were school going students.“We have had to work with a small squad since school was on for most of my players and that took a toll on us,” added Lio.##NAJAVA_MECA_7398514##According to the gaffer, MOFA’s slow start to the season was attributed to less time in preparing the squad for the third tier as they acquired Sindo United after the league had started, leaving the then head coach, now assistant, Antony Mwangi with no time to assemble a strong squad to compete in the league.The outspoken coach was full of praise to the club management for entrusting him with the project and giving him a free hand in the running of the club together with its transfer business, terming it the best working station of his career.“I must thank our CEO Victor Ogada and Olunga for giving me a free hand in working.
