Everton need a Sporting chance to replace the fragile Calvert-Lewin

Everton are looking to add to their attacking options and have reportedly turned their attention to Sporting Clube de Portugal striker Youssef Chermiti. The club is said to be in talks with Sporting, who they have good relations with, regarding the 19-year-old forward. Chermiti made his debut earlier this year and scored three league goals, leading Sporting to sign him to a new four-year deal with an $88 million release clause. 🚨| Everton have agreed a deal with Sporting CP. to sign their striker Youssef Chermiti. 🇵🇹 [via @JamesSavundra]. pic.twitter.com/ZUMC2GK9jo— Football Daily (@footballdaily) August 1, 2023 Everton’s bid for the young Portuguese is reportedly $16.5 million, rising to a potential $22 million with add-ons. However, Sporting want 20% of a future fee, while Everton has offered just 10%. Chermiti is the latest striker to be linked to Everton, who are looking for backup and competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The club has signed Ashley Young and Arnaut Danjuma this summer, but the need for a straightforward Calvert-Lewin replacement remains clear. Danjuma is not seen as an “out and out” striker but rather as most effective in a supporting role or on the left wing. ##NAJAVA_MECA_7403347##After Calvert-Lewin’s hamstring injury last season, his progress is being assessed “day at a time.” Everton’s pursuit of El Bilal Toure was unsuccessful, but the club has now turned to Chermiti. Everton has a positive relationship with Sporting, who they will host in their final public pre-season friendly on Saturday. Another striker once on Everton’s radar, Viktor Gyokeres, may play for the visitors after his switch from Coventry City earlier this month.
