National Super League (NSL) side Mara Sugar embarked on pre-season duties on Tuesday in readiness for the upcoming 2023-2024 campaign without six faces from the concluded 2022-2023 season and Mozzart Sport can firmly report the club has chosen to terminate their contracts.Mara, who missed out on the promotion play-off spot last season by virtue of one point, are restructuring in anticipation of mounting a serious promotion challenge this season and are not bulging on quality of talent to rope in during the rebuild at the Narok-based club. Impeccable sources at the club indicated that players whose contracts were withdrawn had very little contribution last season as the Millers work on contract merit with the best performers being rewarded & the less involved given a chance to explore other opportunities. ##NAJAVA_MECA_7417099##Mozzart Sport has since established that offensive player Collins Wakhungu, right-back Kevin Kyalo, towering centre-back Javier Angasa, attacking midfielder Kevin Muhanji, striker Fred Nyakundi, and holding Midfleder Calvince Otieno have all left the club upon reaching a mutual agreement with the team.Wakhungu, who joined the club from Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) outfit Nzoia Sugar, saw his time at the sugar men reduced due to the emergence of a terrific duo of Philemon Nyakwaka and Victor Ngume flanked by Mohamed Baraza that left Wakhungu scrambling for time on the sidelines. However, Wakhungu has been linked with a return to Sudi-based club and has been training with them since the start of the week. Youngster Fred Nyakundi joined Mara from division two side Githunguri All Stars as part of ten Signings unveiled at the start of last season, though failed to hit the ground with the finisher struggling for game & could not make it to the match day squads for the better part of the season.Kakamega Homeboyz edge out Muhoroni Youth in friendlyMuhanji and Kyalo had three starts the whole season in between them while Calvince Otieno made no match-day squad appearance last season. The Francis Xavier-coached side are also preparing for life with some of their star players from the previous campaign as they are courted with top-flight clubs. The club, which hosts their home matches at Awendo Green Stadium, are also expected to bolster their ranks with the addition of new faces with the team having already identified potential machines for the ambitious second-tier club though with a keen interest in goalkeeping department, midfield and striking.
