Jared Gooden returned to winning ways when he faced Wellington Turman at Moody Center in Austin, TX on Saturday, December 2. The pair battled it out at UFC Fight Night: Dariush vs Tsarukyan live on ESPN+.
The scheduled for three rounds contest didn’t go the full distance. After being stunned, the American welterweight rebounded and paid back, tagging his opponent from Brazil with a left hook followed by a barrage of punches, to ultimately come out on top via rear-naked choke. Referee Jeff Rexroad stopped the fight at 1 minute and 11 seconds into the second round.
With the victory by submission, Atlanta, Georgia-based Jared Gooden improved to 23-9. The 29-year-old native of Birmingham, Alabama secured his first win inside the Octagon, following an unsuccessful UFC debut in March, when he dropped a unanimous decision against Carlston Harris.
Wellington Turman dropped to 18-8. The 27-year-old native of Curitiba, Brazil suffered his third defeat in a row.
