Auba stars and Lacca sinks in another Lyon defeat

It’s sad to watch the former French giant, and once seven consecutive times Ligue 1 champion fall down. And that fall is currenly unstoppable. As it is the case with almost all clubs owned by Americans, Lyon started to fall when Jonh Textor bought them last year, but nobody expected that the demise will be so big and fast. It’s Round 14 in Ligue 1 and there are still mathches to be played until May, but with only one victory and seven points, Lyon is in deep trouble and nobody seems to take that seriously, Textor included. And the crisis continued last night, when the former champion lost another game, this time in Marseille 3-0. Interim coach (and club’s current academy director) Pierre Sage oversaw his second defeat after coach Fabio Grosso was sacked as former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored one and assisted for two other goals, while his former collague from the Emirates Alexandre Lacazette was nowhere to be seen, along with his teammates. Lyon appealed unsuccessfully last month to play the game on neutral ground and league officials took no action against Marseille as a club because the incidents did not occur inside the stadium. No Lyon fans were allowed to attend the rearranged clash following a resurgence of football-related violence in France, the latest incident resulting in the death of a Nantes supporter at the weekend.14 – None of the last 14 teams with seven points or fewer after 14 Ligue 1 games of a season (with three points for a win) have avoided relegation at the end of the campaign, since Sète in 1947-48 (6 points – 16th on 18 at the end). Lyon last week dismissed former World Cup winner Grosso after the Italian oversaw just one win in seven games, replacing him with the club’s academy director Pierre Sage, who is Lyon’s fourth coach of the season. ##NAJAVA_MECA_7721646##
