O’Shaquie Foster puts his WBC junior lightweight title on the line on Friday, February 16, when he faces Abraham Nova at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. The pair squares off in a 12-round main event bout live on ESPN.
Houston-based Foster (21-2, 12 KOs) makes the second defense of his belt. The 30-year-old last fought in October, when he defeated Eduardo Hernandez via 12th round TKO. The native of Orange, Texas claimed the title by unanimous decision against Rey Vargas in February.
“It’s always been my dream to fight at Madison Square Garden, and what better promoter to make this all happen than Top Rank?” O’Shaquie Foster said. “As a kid, watching all the greats fight at MSG inspired me to want to be a part of the history that comes with fighting at such a legendary place. I’m ready to put on a show and keep proving that I’m the best fighter in the world.”
Riding a two-win streak, Nova (23-1, 16 KOs) makes his first attempt to become champion. The 29-year-old Puerto Rican won his previous bout in July by knockout in the third round against Jonathan Romero. In January, the Albany, New York-based contender earned a unanimous decision against Adam Lopez.
“My team and I have earned this opportunity to bring a world title back home,” Abraham Nova said. “You know what I bring, and you know what I’m about. No fear, no doubt.”
The bouts featured on Foster vs Nova undercard are expected to be announced shortly.
In the UK and Australia, the event airs live on Saturday, February 17.
