Ismael Barroso and Ohara Davies have a new fight date made official for Saturday, January 6 at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas. The pair battles it out for the interim WBA super lightweight title. The contest serves as the co-feature on the card topped by Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Fredrick Lawson live on DAZN.
The Barroso vs Davies clash was initially set for December 2 in Houston, Texas. The bout was postponed due to visa issues to the latter.
Former two-time world title challenger Ismael Barroso (24-4-2, 22 KOs) looks to rebound from the defeat suffered in May against Rolando Romero in their WBA super lightweight title fight. Prior to that, Miami-based 40-year-old southpaw won four bouts in a row. In May 2016, the El Tigre, Venezuela native challenged for WBA lightweight title against Anthony Crolla, but alsop suffered the defeat.
Riding a seven-win streak, British Ohara Davies (25-2, 18 KOs) makes his U.S. debut. The 31-year-old native of Hackney, London won his previous bout in March by knockout in the ninth round against Lewis Ritson.
Among other bouts featured on Ortiz vs Lawson undercard, Arnold Barboza Jr. (28-0, 10 KOs) of El Monte, California goes through the ropes in a 10-round bout at super lightweight. Plus, Brooklyn-based former two-time world title challenger Sergiy Derevyanchenko (14-5, 10 KOs) of Feodosia, Crimea, Ukraine makes his ring appearance in a 10-round bout at super middleweight.
Among the prelims, Raul Curiel (13-0, 11 KOs) of Guadalajara, Mexico defends his NABF welterweight belt in a 10-round bout against Elias Diaz (12-1, 7 KOs) of National City, California. As well, Tristan Kalkreuth (12-1, 9 KOs) of Carollton, Texas and Marquice Weston (15-2-1, 8 KOs) of Tacoma, Washington go head to head in an eight-round bout at cruiserweight.
In addition, Santa Ana’s Johnny Canas (2-0, 1 KO) is in a four-round action at super lightweight. Rounding out the card, Emiliano Gandara of Dallas, Texas makes his pro boxing debut in a four-round bout at super welterweight.
In the main event, undefeated knockout artist Vergil Ortiz Jr (19-0, 19 KOs) of Dallas, Texas goes up against Chicago-based Fredrick Lawson (30-3, 22 KOs) of Accra, Ghana. The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds at super welterweight.
