Kakamega Homeboyz center back Brian Eshihanda has expressed his desire to write history by becoming the first defender to hit the ten-goal mark in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League in a season in recent times.Eshihanda is among the defenders with the rare attribute of scoring goals, if his numbers since he broke into the top flight are anything to go by.The no-nonsense center back is the highest-scoring defender this season, courtesy of the five goals he managed in the first leg of the campaign.Eshihanda, who played as a forward until 2020, when coach Nicholas Muyoti helped him transition into a center back, told Mozzart Sport that he was eyeing hitting double digits and claiming the Defender of the Season award. The hard-tackling defender has scored all his goals by attacking the ball from set pieces, especially corner kicks. No defender has managed to score more than ten goals in the Kenyan top flight in recent history, a fact that disturbs Eshihanda, who believes that he has what it takes to make it.”It is possible to attain the goal. If I manage five in the first leg, I believe I can achieve a similar number in the remaining matches,” he said.Eshihanda pegged his hopes on his goal-scoring instincts, which he said were intact despite playing as a defender for the last three years.”I know how to position myself well and attack the ball. I know when to make or delay a run in the box,” stated Eshihanda. The biggest challenge Homeboyz have faced in their last five league matches has been scoring, as the team didn’t manage to have the ball in the net in those matches.Eshihanda, in the meantime, expressed optimism about the team returning better and stronger when the league resumes next weekend.”I am confident that we will get back to winning ways,” he added.
