Jannik Sinner secured his first Australian Open title with a thrilling 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 win over Daniil Medvedev. Sinner had to dig deep for the victory, gradually turning his fortunes around after dropping the first two sets against Medvedev. After his victory Sinner spoke of how pleased he was to be one of the rising generation of top tennis talents and he said his win was “what the sport needs”. He is just the third Italian man to win a grand slam title – the first since Adriano Panatta in 1976.
