Philips buries West Ham, Kudus saves them

It was the third minute of the game between West Ham and Bournemouth and new signing Kalvin Phillips had his first touch of the ball. He made a mistake and his debut turned into a nightmare as Dominic Solanke was there to take advantage and score for the visitors. What a day for England international who started in the first game after a loan move from Manchester City. Phillips was looking for a team which will promise him playtime and Hammers agreed to that, but it was obvious after first 15 minutes that he is still “rusty“ and will need some time to get into action. Luckily for the home team, James Ward-Prowse and Mohammed Kudus were there to prevent a disaster, but in the end it was a disappointing draw, 1-1.West Ham have gone six Premier League games without defeat in a single season for the first time since January 2021. West Ham have drawn three consecutive Premier League games for the first time since April 2017. If it wasn‘t for the Ghana international they would have lost this game. Luckily for the fans, he managed to burst into the penalty area where he was unintentionally tripped by Kelly, but after a VAR check, the referee gave the Hammers a penalty and James Ward-Prowse is still perfect from the spot. One nil in goals and three one in chances, that was the description for the first half. The visitors used Phillips‘ mistake to take the lead and then didn‘t back but continued to press and create problems for the Hammers. Absolutely nothing happened for the next half and hour and after that Cherries had another great chance, but Semenyo shot was tamed by Areola. West Ham keeper had another change to show off his skills, again against Semenyo in the last minute of the half. In between, the hosts had only one good chance, but Bowen‘s header was saved by Neto. The crowd booed their team when they went to the locker room, coach David Moyes probably yelled at them, but the result was the same for the first 15 minutes in the second half. In fact, the penalty converted by James Ward-Prowse was their only shot on target up to that point. As much as the fans wanted a total turnover from that moment on, it was again Bournemouth with a fantastic chance, but Christie‘s shot was just wide. Kudus remained a threat on the right and Moyes introduced another striker (Danny Ings)PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 22TuesdayNott.
