It’s rarely dull in the Premier League – and today we got some mouthwatering action, mostly thanks to Liverpool and Tottenham’s attacking football.Liverpool clinched a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Burnley in front of the largest crowd ever attended at Anfield. The win extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League on their home ground to 24 matches. Burnley, who are struggling in the league, tried to cause an upset and started brightly, but Liverpool punished them ruthlessly. Diogo Jota headed home Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner to put Liverpool in the lead. However, Burnley responded, and Dara O’Shea headed home Josh Brownhill’s delivery to equalize. Liverpool suffered a blow when Alexander-Arnold was subbed out due to injury at halftime. However, his replacement, Harvey Elliott, was exceptional and assisted Luis Díaz to head home Liverpool’s second goal. Despite Burnley’s persistence, Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez secured the win with a header to make it 3-1. Although Liverpool returned to the top of the table, they played one more game than Manchester City. Burnley remained seven points away from safety, still struggling to find form.Liverpool’s home record across all competitions this season:WWWWWWWWWWWDWDWWWWWMan Utd and Arsenal are the only sides to leave with a point. pic.twitter.com/2BurT4Kwu3— Squawka (@Squawka) February 10, 2024 Tottenham made a stunning comeback to win 2-1 against Brighton thanks to a late, late Brennan Johnson strike. The English winger scored the decisive goal in the 96th minute after the game had looked set to end in a draw – which would have been the first draw in 13 head-to-head matches between these teams.Guglielmo Vicario was criticized after his performance against Everton, but the Italian goalkeeper made a crucial save in the opening 50 seconds of the game to deny Danny Welbeck after he had stolen the ball from Micky van de Ven. The game had a heated start, with Pascal Gross and James Maddison getting into a clash. Brighton’s playmaker, Gross, dealt the first blow by stealing the ball from Maddison on the edge of Spurs’ box. Welbeck then outsmarted Van de Ven again to win a penalty that Gross converted confidently.Ange Postecoglou’s side created the better openings after the break, with Maddison’s tame free-kick being dealt with by Steele, and Timo Werner’s effort trickling marginally wide. Spurs continued to sustain the pressure, and after seeing a shot blocked by Tariq Lamptey, Pape Matar Sarr finally got the equalizer on the hour mark. His attempted cutback was turned onto the post by Lewis Dunk, and the midfielder reacted to score his first goal since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.Brennan Johnson WINS IT FOR TOTTENHAM 🔥pic.twitter.com/R4DBi4ZT7y— Ron (@Ronhotspur) February 10, 2024 Brighton eventually regained their foothold in the game and created opportunities, but Ansu Fati slid his effort agonizingly wide, and Van de Ven deflected Facundo Buonanotte’s strike off-target. However, they were hit in the final moments as Heung-min Son set up Brennan Johnson for a finish at the back post that secured Spurs’ fifth consecutive home PL win. Meanwhile, Brighton haven’t won any of their last six away league games.Elsewhere in the league, Sheffield United beat Luton Town 3-1 at Kenilworth Road to close the gap to their opponents to seven points. The Blades scored twice in the first half, followed by a goal from Vini Souza in the second half. Luton’s Carlton Morris scored for them from the spot. Sheffield United recorded their first away victory against today’s opponents since 1994. The Blades remain at the bottom of the league table, while Luton Town stay just outside the relegation zone.##NAJAVA_MECA_7863387##Fulham returned to form and beat Bournemouth 3-1, marking their first PL win of the year. Rodrigo Muniz scored twice for Fulham. Bournemouth’s Lewis Cook slipped, allowing Bobby Decordova-Reid to score. Muniz added a second goal soon after, and Marcos Senesi scored for Bournemouth. But Muniz scored a third goal soon after, securing a win for Fulham.ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 24Saturday Manchester City – Everton 2-0 (0-0)/Haaland 71, 85/Luton – Sheffield United 1-3 (0-2)/Morris 52 pen – Archer 30, McAtee 36 pen, Souza 72/Liverpool – Burnley 3-1 (1-1)/Jota 31, Diaz 52, Nunez 79 – O’Shea 45/Fulham – Bournemouth 3-1 (2-0)/De Cordova-Reid 5, Muniz 36, 52 – Senesi 50/Wolverhampton – Brentford 0-2 (0-1)/Norgaard 35, Toney 77/Tottenham – Brighton 2-1 (0-1)/Sarr 61, Johnson 90+6 – Gross 16 pen/20.30: (3.60) Nott.Forest (3.60) Newcastle (2.15)Sunday 17.00: (6.25) West Ham (4.10) Arsenal (1.60)19.30: (2.20) Aston Villa (3.60) Man.Utd.
