National Super League (NSL) outfit Darajani Gogo are set to promote William Oricho to the first team’s technical bench after the exit of Andrew Ongwae, Mozzart Sport can firmly report.Oricho has been serving as the club’s fitness trainer for the past two years and word has it he will be drafted in temporarily to assist Paul Ogai in managing the club.##NAJAVA_MECA_7881768##Ongwae left the club after a season and a half to spearhead Vihiga Bullets survival quest making it a necessity for Gogo to appoint his predecessor as soon as it mattered.Initially, the club had planned a reunion with the former head of scouting Said Mohammed, but a delay in paperwork saw Said take up a coaching role with fourth-tier side Marafiki FC.“We have been forced to reorganize the technical bench following the departure of coach Marko (Ongwae). Oricho is an insider and understands this team and its culture. He is also a winner who is well-traveled in Kenyan football. We believe he is the ideal man to work with Ogai,” stated a reliable source from the club.EXCLUSIVE: Vihiga Bullets set to appoint Andrew Ongwae as new head coachWho is William Oricho?William Oricho born in Mombasa, began his football journey in Kisauni. He played for youth teams in the region until 2010 before joining then-Western football heavyweight Chavakali High School in 2011 at the age of 13. After a brief stint with Chavakali, he left two years later due to difficulties in school fees and his talent had caught the eyes of Olympic High School scouts that lured him to link up with the side in 2013.It was at the Olympics that his footballing star started to shine and immediately after the national examination, he signed his first-ever deal with second-tier side Kibera Black Stars in 2015 where he played for three years before transitioning to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) with Vihiga United in 2018.During his time at Vihiga, Oricho achieved significant success, becoming a household name to the majority of the local football enthusiasts though his stay was cut short after Chemelil Sugar came baying for his signature a year later a move he termed too good to reject. The same year, his growth never went unnoticed, Oricho commonly known as Mandela received a national team call-up to the Harambee Stars Under 23 trip to Uzbekistan, however, the match was later abandoned with players breaking the camp.Following a bitter ending to the national team dream his stay with Chemelil ended prematurely as he opted for a stay with seasoned coach Stanley Okumbi at now-defunct Wazito FC in the second division but failed to get playing time after picking up a knee injury that sidelined him for nine months.A return to Kibera was on the cards and without second thought a disheartened Oricho pounced on the move though injuries persisted marking his first interaction with Darajani Gogo in 2021.“Upon return to Kibera Black Stars I picked another knock and when Gogo heard they requested I go help the boys with the experience I had acquired,” he told Mozzart Sport.NSL: Talking points from the weekend actionOricho took the Gogo call wholeheartedly captaining the side to two subsequent promotions from the fourth tier to the second tier before injuries deniedhim an opportunity to join Ulinzi Stars alongside captain Nicholas Omondi last season. The latest setback forced the vibrant midfielder to hang boots and venture into coaching. The CAF D coaching license holder is adamant the new role at Darajani will not only help his growth but also allow the development of more talents that will surpass his legacy.
