Wayne Rooney is among many of those ‘great footballer – bad coach‘ type of players. The former Manchester United captain began his coaching career with Derby County as a caretaker manager before signing full time. He later took over DC United before coming back to England to coach Birmingham. That didn‘t end well either and after his sack, his total record with all three clubs is 152 matches, 41 wins, 36 draws and 73 defeats. Not good. Unlike him, Pep Guardiola was both good player (maybe not so good as Rooney) and a great manager and has numerous trophies in both roles to show for. And his coaching greatness is such, that former Manchester captain would gladly accept to work for the great rivals, just so he can learn from the Spaniard.Rooney was one of the best footballers – and he’s one of the worst coachesRooney believes that just working with Guardiola, who he considers to be the best manager, would make any coach instantly better and gives Mikel Arteta as an example.“It depends on whether I’d ever be an assistant – if Pep Guardiola comes in and asks me to be his assistant, you’d walk there! But you see what Mikel Arteta is doing now and I strongly believe a lot of that is from learning what Guardiola was doing and so it depends on what the situation is“ said Rooney in the latest episode of the ‘Stick to Football‘ podcast.Rio Ferdinand names his worst teammate in Manchester UnitedFormer Birmingham manager believes that Guardiola‘s ability to adapt and play differently year in and year out is one of his greatest abilities.“The way the game’s gone – it’s strange. I watched one of our games back, against Liverpool from about 15 years ago, and the difference to how the game was played then to how it is now is massive. For me, the best manager is Pep Guardiola, and you look at how he adapts – how Manchester City are playing now is not the same as how they were playing four years ago. He keeps making these subtle changes, and then you see everyone else trying to do the same. It’s important to have your own principles and ideas of what you want to do and that’s what I’ve tried to do at Derby, DC [United] and at Birmingham, but unfortunately it didn’t work“ admitted Rooney.ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUETuesdayMan.City – Brentford 1-0 (0-0)/Haaland 71/Wednesday 22.30: (1.20) Liverpool (7.25) Luton (12.0)***odds are subject to change***
