Gor Mahia claims full payment to Adama Keita, appeals FIFA ban

Gor Mahia maintains that they have cleared all the money they owed their former goalkeeper Adama Keita and want the transfer ban slapped on the club lifted. The FKF Premier League leaders were sanctioned for the umpteenth time on Wednesday afternoon for allegedly failing to pay the player what was accrued in penalties and interest for delaying the payment of his dues as directed by FIFA’s Disputes Resolution Chamber.##NAJAVA_MECA_7909546##On January 9th, 2024, FIFA directed Gor Mahia to pay the player $15,272 (slightly over Ksh 2 Million) which was a penalty for delaying payment of his final installment of $14,544 within 45 days or face a transfer embargo. The amount represented 50% of the principal amount of $30,544 (slightly over Ksh 4.4 Million). On Wednesday, the player wrote back to FIFA claiming that Gor had not fulfilled their mandate, and immediately the world football governing body clamped down on the club, imposing an international ban and directing FKF to ban them from signing players locally.Gor, however, have come out guns blazing, maintaining that they do not owe the player a single cent. According to a club chief who spoke on condition of anonymity, the club cleared all the money owed to the 39-year-old keeper close to a fortnight ago, and FIFA erred in sanctioning the club again over a matter that, according to them, is closed.”We’re perplexed by the situation as of February 15th, as we’ve fully complied with FIFA’s directives and settled all dues owed to the player. The matter was considered closed, and we’re unclear about the player’s current demands,” a club insider informed Mozzart Sport.”The outstanding amounts consisted of 18% interest and a $15,272 penalty for delayed payment, both of which have been cleared from our end. It came as a surprise when we learned about the transfer ban yesterday,” the insider added. The club has since written to FIFA seeking to have their ban lifted promptly and has attached all proof of payment.”We’ve reached out to FIFA, providing evidence of payment, and are urging for a swift resolution to lift the ban. Our priority is to swiftly resolve this issue,” the source concluded.
