Maybe Bayer Leverkusen is the best team in Europe right now, as Xabi Alonso‘s men are yet to be defeated in any competition, but Inter Milan is right behind them. Nerrazuri are out of the Cup, but very much in contention in two major competitions: Serie A and the Champions League. Simone Inzaghi‘s team is just scary. They won all their games in 2024 (11), their eight games winning streak in the first eight Serie A games at the start of this calendar year is a historical record, while they are explosive in the attack too, as they defeated Atalanta, Lecce, Salernitana and Roma with four goals in each game. Tonight, the guests from Genoa gave them a hard time in Milan, much harder than Atalanta, but their streak is still intact after another win (12th): Inter – Genoa 2-1. Nerrazuri are now 15 points ahead of the second-placed Juventus and 16 from their arch-rivals Milan, who sit in third place and can think about the Champions League return game with Atletico in Madrid.ASLLANI’S FIRST GOAL FOR INTER! pic.twitter.com/luVAUW3CZV— F.C. Their only goal of the game was not the product of a mistake by Inter‘s great defense, but of a great individual effort by Vasquez. The first half was uncertain for about half an hour and by that time, Inter had one chance, which was a double save by keeper Martinez after shots from Dimarco, which were later ruled as offside and later another one, this one even better. A fantastic cross field pass from Mkhitaryan found Barella who stormed into the box, but couldn‘t control his volley. The guests had one single chance, but it was a good one. Retegui‘s header was fantastic, but so was Sommer‘s save. The rebound fell to Gudmundsson who wasn‘t concentrated and missed the goal completely from a point blank range. Just five minutes later, it was 1-0 for the hosts. Barella found Martinez who spotted Asllani coming in from deep, and the youngster smashed the ball into the net for his first Serie A goal. It took Inter three more minutes to score the second goal when Nicolo Barella was tackled in the penalty area while trying to shoot and the referee pointed at the spot, which was successfully converted by former Arsenal player Alexis Sanchez.GENOA GOAL!Johan Vásquez, at the edge of the area, takes the surplus and takes a beautiful shot at the goal! In one of their rear attacks’, Vasquez ran onto the ball and scored after a sublime volley from the edge of the box in the 54th minute. The home team suddenly slowed down while Genoa attacked as much as they could and even scared the packed stadium when they equalized in the 66th minute.
