CAF technical inspection delegation to visit CHAN host cities and stadiums

A CAF technical inspection delegation will be in East Africa starting Thursday 6 March to inspect cities and stadiums that are set to host the African Nations Championships (CHAN) in September.Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are set to co-host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), subject to successful stadium inspections.##NAJAVA_MECA_7931973##The joint hosts will all provide one stadium to host the competition which is contested by players who ply their trade in the continent with a fourth venue in Zanzibar, according to Wallace Karia, the president of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa).The delegation consists of technical experts in various operational areas and will be out to ensure that all is set for the tournament slated to run in September.Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania (Mainland), and Zanzibar are the nations to play host to the tournament. Nambole National Stadium, New Amani Stadium, Bukhungu Stadium, and Benjamin Mkapa Stadium are the picked venues, while Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi is also highly considered.The CAF technical committee delegation upon touching down on Wednesday, will kick off their inspection on Thursday in Uganda, before moving to Kenya, and Zanzibar and wrapping up with Tanzania.Four EA countries to co-host CHAN 2024They will inspect not just the stadiums but also several facilities and areas that will be used during the competitions.Kenya will be hoping to tick the right boxes this time round after suffering heartbreaks in 1996 and 2018 when it got stripped of the hosting rights of the tournament.In 2018, CAF admitted that the lack of up-to-standard infrastructure to host the competition and the need to improve the existing ones meant that Kenya would inevitably play second fiddle to better-placed countries that had invested heavily in infrastructure development over the yearsSome CAF officials in Accra also expressed concern about the political situation in Kenya that was orchestrated by the then-annulled presidential elections.A quick survey by Mozzart Sport in the other hosting nations indicates readiness with several officials we spoke to confident of impressing Africa’s football governing body in the continent.Zanzibar Football Federation Secretary General Hussein Ahmada Vuai said the island was more than ready after the completion of renovation works at the New Amani Stadium at the time hailing the football heads in the region for bringing CHAN to East Africa which will signify growth in local leagues.“Zanzibar we are more than ready, we have put all our resources into the renovations of Amani Stadium and we believe it is up to CAF standards,’ offered Vuai.“Hosting CHAN means we are taking our league to another level, we are going to be exposed to the outside world, and through the competition, we may get players who will be interested in gracing our local tiers,” he added.Tanzania learns opponents ahead of newly introduced FIFA series games
