Abdallah Chamberi Wankuru has been out of active football for one and a half years now; July will mark a full two years, and he sets his sights on making a comeback, particularly to the Kenyan Premier League, which, injuries aside, propelled him to the forefront.Currently recovering from his second surgery at home in Tanzania, Wankuru, an astute anchorman in the midfield, reveals his desire to bounce back again.##NAJAVA_MECA_7950841##”I have been out for one and a half years, and I am looking to make a comeback to the Kenyan Premier League next season. I have already started light training as I recover,” he says.Having been forced back home due to a persistent chest problem, the midfielder, who last appeared in the top flight in the colors of Kakamega Homeboyz, recalls how strenuous the three seasons he spent in the Kenyan top tier were, despite the immense effort he always put in for his former sides.”I opted to relax for a while, take care of the family, now that I had attracted so many injuries to that point. It all started while playing for SoNy Sugar. I had a nasty knock on my ribs but I still continued playing with it. While at Kakamega Homeboyz, I had it looked at through surgery, and I believed I had made a comeback. But this was not to be, and a second surgery had to be done early this year. I thank God for the recovery,” he continues.Wankuru made his entry into the country through SoNy Sugar FC, at the time coached by Patrick Odhiambo (currently at Homeboyz), before moving to Western Stima and later Kakamega Homeboyz. SoNy, despite being presently defunct, had a fantastic 2018/19 season, finishing 5th on the log.President Ruto hosts AFC Leopards delegation at statehouseThe team included names such as Kevin Omondi (Gor), Kennedy Owino (AFC Leopards), Tobias Omondi (USA), Derrick Otanga (KCB), Joshua Nyatini (Tanzani), Robert Mudenyu (Murang’a Seal), Enock Agwanda, Daniel Okoth, to name just a few. Chamberi pulled the strings in the midfield alongside Tobias, and he wants to relive such a season again.”When the league ends, I will cross over back to Kenya and hopefully land a good side. It’s a league that built a lot of character in me, and I understand it well. My former teammates have also done well after moving from the club, and I long for such a bond,” recalls Abdallah. The two surgeries did dent his finances immensely, he admits, part of the reason he’ll be looking for a financially stable side when he returns.”I have used a lot of funds to treat myself, so a well-structured team financially is what I’ll be looking for, with proper medical coverage and all that. Two months of intense pre-season training, I believe, will have me ready for next season because I have already started my own personal training,” he concludes. While recuperating from his last surgery, he keeps fit with his boyhood club in Tanzania, engaging in high-intensity training, he says, and anticipates a major comeback once he is done.Wesonga expresses relief after ending a nine-match winless streak
