The final three holes at Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course are known as the Snake Pit, and the closing stretch sunk its teeth into the players in contention on Sunday.
Ten players were within three shots of the lead on the back nine, but the 2024 Valspar Championship became a two-man race between a player looking for his first PGA Tour win and another looking for his first in almost a decade.
In the end it was Peter Malnati who came out on top as the 36-year-old emerged victorious at 12 under, two shots clear of Cameron Young, who finished runner-up for the seventh time in his young career. Malnati’s previous lone win on Tour came at the 2015 Sanderson Farms Championship.
Malnati shot a 4-under 67 in the final round and made a clutch birdie on the par-3 17th hole to take a one-shot advantage over Young, who then made a bogey in the group ahead on the closing 18th after a wayward drive.
