‘I believe that I should be a part of England squad’

EURO 2024 is just around the corner. England is, as always, among the favourites to win the tournament, especially after they came to the final match last time around and lost to Italy on penalties. The ‘fight’ for places is tight as always and manager Gareth Southgate will have a tough time deciding which player he will take to Germany. He was known in these couple of years for calling players who were out of form in their clubs instead of giving chances to other footballers. This was the case with Harry Maguire, Kalvin Phillips and with Jordan Henderson. But there is a guy who was a regular at Southgate, won 49 England caps and was part of their group for the 2022 World Cup, but he hasn’t been called-up by Southgate since 2023. And he is not afraid to say that he should be in the team heading to EURO.Eric Dier speaking to @WeAreTheOverlap:”Obviously, I want to be a part of the England set-up and I believe that I should be a part of it, that I’m that level of a player.”COMPARED: Branthwaite vs. Guéhi vs. Dier vs. Maguire vs. Dunk. 😎 pic.twitter.com/XLfxb17gSl— Squawka (@Squawka) April 9, 2024 Eric Dier was a Tottenham player for over 10 years and was a key first-team member under coaches Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, even managing 365 appearances in total for the club. But when Ange Postecoglou came in, he was out of favour and decided to go to Bayern Munich for a loan. After a couple of months, he also became a regular there, but the call for England still hadn’t arrived.“Obviously, I want to be a part of the England set-up. And I believe that I should be a part of it, that I’m that level of a player. I haven’t spoken at all to Gareth Southgate, but you try and play as well as possible for your club and then the decision is out of your hands. Since the World Cup, I wouldn’t say that I’ve had any dip in form. I’m playing the best football of my career since Conte came to Tottenham and I’ve carried it on since I’ve been here at Bayern Munich. People think that I’m 37 or something, but I’m 30 years-old and am nowhere near the end of my prime and I imagine that this will be my prime.” he said, speaking on The Overlap, hosted by Garry Neville.Dier already ended his Bayern experimentIn his ten-plus years at Tottenham, Dier failed to win any trophies, and that’s what bothers him the most.”It’s something I’ll have to live with for the rest of my life. There were moments when we should have won a trophy. In the year Leicester won the Premier League, we could have won it. Similarly, a year later when Chelsea won” he said.UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE – QUARTER-FINALSFirst legTuesday22:00: (1.80) Arsenal (3.70) Bayern (5.00)22:00: (2.85) Real Madrid (3.50) Man.City (2.55)Wednesday22:00: (1.85) Atl.Madrid (3.60) Dortmund (4.80)22:00: (2.05) PSG (3.60) Barcelona (3.80)***odds are subject to change***
