Stuttgart delivered one of the best first-half performances of the Bundesliga campaign on their way to a 3-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, extending their unbeaten league run to nine games (seven wins, two draws) in the process. The hosts could hardly have asked for a better start to the game, breaking their opponents’ defensive resistance within just 11 minutes. As has so often been the case this term, Serhou Guirassy broke the deadlock for Stuttgart, bagging his 25th goal of the current Bundesliga campaign with a clever finish to beat Kevin Trapp in a one-on-one. VAR threatened the rule goal out, but it was eventually awarded to give the Guinea striker another record – his haul this term is more than any Stuttgart player has previously managed in the German top flight. The home side built on the momentum and doubled their lead shortly after, with Deniz Undav taking advantage of Robin Koch’s poor control before marching through on goal and slotting home before the 20-minute mark. While Frankfurt attempted to push forward and unsettle the opposing backline but, besides a few isolated runs into the box, they were unable to cause Die Schwaben any problems. Instead, it was Sebastian Hoeness’ men who extended their lead further. On this occasion, Jamie Leweling pounced on a delightful through ball from Undav, capping off a fantastic first-half display for his side.Stuttgart took their foot off the gas after the interval with the points already all but in the bag. Frankfurt were partly responsible for clipping the home team’s wings, though, as they played the second half with a more positive approach. Still, chances remained few and far between, and their best opening was an Omar Marmoush free-kick that was beautifully parried away by Fabian Bredlow.Tomorrow will show if it was in vain – Bayern push the Billy Goats off a cliffIn all honesty, though, the Baden-Württemberg’s job was complete by halftime and they cruised to victory as they opened a seven-point gap over Borussia Dortmund in the race to secure a Champions League berth next season. As for Frankfurt, they are now winless in four straight league matches and, while they still control their destiny, they were unable to really stake their claim for the Europa Conference League spot.BUNDESLIGA – MATCHDAY 29FridayAugsburg – Union Berlin 2-0 (0-0)/Tietz 47, Michel 81/Saturday Bayern – Koln 2-0 (0-0)/Guerreiro 65, Muller 90+3/Bochum – Heidenheim 1-1 (0-0)/Schlotterbeck 90 – Schlotterbeck 81 og/M’ gladbach – Dortmund 1-2 (0-2)/Wober 36 – Sabitzer 22, 28 pen/RB Leipzig – Wolfsburg 3-0 (1-0)/Olmo 13, Sesko 68, Openda 82/Mainz – Hoffenheim 4-1 (0-1)/Burkardt 47, Mwene 51, Gruda 63, Onisiwo 89 – Kaderabek 19/Stuttgart – Eintr.Frankfurt 3-0 (3-0)/Guirassy 11, Undav 17, Leweling 37/Sunday 16:30: (4.10) Darmstadt (3.50) Freiburg (1.90)18:30: (1.20) Leverkusen (6.75) Werder (14.0)***odds are subject to change***
