Nzoia Sugar FC head coach Mike Mururi remains confident of avoiding relegation despite his team being nine points away from safety with just seven games left before the season concludes. The millers seem destined for relegation, having only secured four wins all season. Ensuring their safety by winning nearly all remaining games appears to be a tall order, and their eight-year stay in the top tier seems to be nearing its end.##NAJAVA_MECA_8045704##Much of Nzoia’s challenges have been attributed to financial troubles that have plagued the club for the last 3-4 years, which stem from the problems facing the parent company, Nzoia Sugar Company Limited.Despite the bleak outlook and impending relegation, Coach Mururi remains optimistic. He is hopeful based on his team’s first-half performance against Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday, despite eventually losing 3-0 after conceding three goals in under ten minutes.”We have a chance to avoid relegation. Based on how we played in the first half, we have a significant chance of survival. I don’t see major problems. We have one week to correct the mistakes we made against the Sharks, and if we win five of the remaining seven games, we will remain in the league,” the tactician said.Reflecting on the game against Sharks, the former Kenyan international mentioned that things took a turn for the worse for his team after Elisha Wekesa received a second-half red card. He believes the outcome would have been different had they kept all their players on the pitch throughout the game.”We performed well in the first half, and I believe things went awry when we received the red card. The card disrupted our play, we lost our defensive shape and ended up conceding three goals in a short period. It was a significant setback because I believe we had a chance to salvage something from the game, but the few minutes after the red card cost us dearly.”Nzoia will travel to Nairobi to play Tusker FC after the international break.
