Sofapaka youngster eyes Harambee Stars inclusion

Sofapaka FC right-back Baron Ochieng is looking forward to representing the senior national team, the Harambee Stars, after turning out for three junior national sides. The youngster has represented Kenya U17, was part of the Kenya U18 team that finished second in the CECAFA U18 Championship held in Kisumu and Kakamega in 2023, and recently turned out for the Kenya U20 team during the four-nation tournament in Malawi, where Kenya ended up as runners-up.##NAJAVA_MECA_8072956##For a player featuring in the top tier for the first time this season, he appears to have achieved much already in terms of representing the nation, but the player is hungry for more, and he now says that playing for the senior team is his next dream.”I am looking forward to playing for the senior team. That has always been my dream. It is my wish to represent the country,” he said in an interview with the club’s official website. His entry into coach Engin Firat’s team will, however, not be an easy one as there are more experienced players above him. Denmark-based Daniel Anyembe, Gor Mahia’s Rooney Onyango, Armenia-based Amos Nondi, and Tusker’s Daniel Sakari are some of the players who, on paper, are above the youngster in the pecking order. The former Kibera Black Stars man also delved into the CECAFA U18 Championship last year, noting the support that they received from the fans. The matches played in Kisumu and Kakamega witnessed good attendance from the Kenya fans. Kenya lost to Uganda in the final.”Last year, we played in the CECAFA Under-18 tournament. It was an amazing tournament because we hosted it and the fans filled the stadium. We reached the finals.”With the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup coming up in June, he will be hoping for his inclusion in the squad.
