Kenya Junior team selected amidst NCBA US kids tournament hiatus

The Junior Golf Foundation – Kenya has assembled a team of 22 junior golfers who will attend a training camp starting next week in preparation for upcoming international competitions.Among the selected groups are 12 boys and 10 girls, chosen for the provisional national squad based on their performances throughout the year. Additionally, some of these juniors may even participate in select seniors’ competitions. By identifying our potential representatives early, we can adequately prepare for upcoming events,” Mukiri explained.In the recent NCBA US Kids Local Tour tournament at Muthaiga Golf Club, four junior players demonstrated exceptional skill by playing at par or under, highlighting the improving caliber of junior golf.A standout performer at the tournament was Kanana Muthomi, who clinched victory in the girls 11–12 year old category with an impressive score of three under par 69. Despite a challenging first nine, Kanana rallied in the second half, securing three birdies and an eagle for an outstanding five under par.Reflecting on her performance, Kanana remarked, “My putting was off in the first nine, leading to some mistakes. However, I managed to regroup in the second half, improving my course management and putting, which allowed me to play some excellent golf.”In other categories, Aryan Patel claimed victory in the boys six and under category with a score of -1. Additionally, Maahir Patel in the boys 13–14 years old category, Ivan Ng’eno in the boys 8 years old category, and Ashley Gachora in the girls 9–10 years old category all achieved level par scores.CS Namwamba donates sports equipment in BusiaAshley Gachora expressed her mixed emotions about the game, stating, “It was a rollercoaster of emotions. Despite a disappointing double bogey, my mindset shifted in the final hole, where I managed to secure an eagle.”Building on the success of the US Kids tournament, NCBA plans to expand access to the sport for children who may not have had previous exposure or opportunities to engage in golf.John Gachora, Group Managing Director of NCBA, emphasized the importance of community engagement and the development of junior golfers for the sport’s future in Kenya.
