One saga is over (Xavi is sacked), and the other one begins: Hansi Flick is here! The former Bayern Munich and national team coach landed in Barcelona on Tuesday, and after his future club agreed on the compensation package with the former coach, he signed a two-year contract until June 30th 2026. The official statement gives us just this information, along with some irrelevant ones (who was in the room when he signed the contract) and some general ones from his CV, which can be found on Wikipedia anyway. It’s our moment. Flick is here. pic.twitter.com/ysb35a6l35— FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) May 29, 2024 What can be learned from the media, though, is the more interesting information like his wage and Xavi’s compensation package. According to Sport, the already former coach turned out to be a true gentleman and didn’t want his club to suffer more, even thou he could, considering that his contract was prematurely ended by the Catalans. He agreed on a 2.5 million euro package, which is the exact sum he gave to Al Saad from his own pocket in order to break the contract and come to Camp Nou in 2021. As for Flick’s wage, the same newspapers reveal the sum – 1.5 million net per season. Really a small amount for a coach with so many trophies who is at the helm of some of the biggest clubs in the world. He is also tied for only two seasons when Laporta’s mandate will expire. But the bonuses for the Champions League and the Spanish title could raise his wage in total. The Champions League is the top priority, with a bonus of 1,000,000 euros for winning it, while the bonus for winning La Liga is slightly lower at 750,000 euros. However, the Catalan newspaper Sport did not specify whether these amounts are gross, as is the case with the base salary. When all is said and done, Hansi Flick could end up at a greater loss than gain. Financially, considering how much coaches earn today, he won’t find much fortune in Catalonia. Achieving success in Spain, especially alongside Real Madrid, which has undergone a generational change and swiftly risen to the top of the Champions League, seems like a utopian task. However, to start with, Barcelona will likely be satisfied if he manages to compete with the Royal Club and bring the title back to Catalonia.Xavi’s farewell message and a tip to Flick: You will suffer, this is a complicated placeAnd as Xavi warned after his last game as a coach: “They should know that they’ve got a difficult situation, because Barca is a difficult club and there’s an adverse financial situation too — it won’t be easy at all” he told DAZN. ##NAJAVA_MECA_8130320##
