On-form striker John Mark Makwatta will only leave Kariobangi Sharks for a club outside the country, according to his coach William Muluya. This ostensibly rules out a move to other clubs within the country that are also chasing after his signature.Makwata is by far the best January mid-season transfer acquisition by any team in the FKF Premier League. He has revitalized Sharks’ attack that sometimes dimmed in the first leg.City Stars’ Mukolwe reflects on 2023/24 FKFPL seasonThe former military man has scored 13 league goals since his move to Sharks in January and is now in the thick of the Golden Boot race. Gor Mahia’s Benson Omalla leads the pack with 16 goals followed by Police FC’s Tito Okello who has 15 goals with Makwata closing the top 3.How many goals would he have scored if he had started the league with Sharks? It’s the question lingering on many observers including other clubs chasing his services. Muluya believes Kenyan clubs are out of the equation.”He loves the team (Kariobangi Sharks), he likes it here. I don’t think he will play for any other club in the country that is not us. He will, maybe, leave for a club outside the country,” the tactician offered.Being a key member of the squad, Muluya further disclosed that Sharks are also in negotiations with the player to remain with the club##NAJAVA_MECA_8130247##”I know that he values himself. He also knows that Sharks is a place where he calls home. You never know, we might also still be in negotiations with him to see if he can stay.”Makwata has been a key figure at Sharks and in a previous interview with Mozzart Sport, his coach attributed this to his hard work and easy adaptation.”He is a key player for us. He has also adapted well to our style of play which favours him. It is a symbiotic relationship where both sides complement each other,” he continued. With Makwata’s contract with Kariobangi Sharks running out at the end of the season, he will be a key figure in the transfer window once it opens as various clubs try to have his signature.
