Eto’o’s warm welcome for new Cameroon manager: no balls, no bus, no support

After the bizarre story from Equatorial Guinea regarding Emilio Nsue, another interesting one comes from neighbouring Cameroon.Namely, the war between the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) and the national team legend, Samuel Eto’o, and the new Indomitable Lions manager, Marc Brys, is definitely raging. The experienced strategist was appointed by the country’s Minister of Sports, Mouelle Kombi, instead of Eto’o. As a matter of fact, Cameroon’s all-time leading goalscorer had no idea that the Belgian was being hired. Thus, he decided to make Brys’ life as difficult as possible straight from the start.Livid Eto’o reads riot act to Cameroon players, promises radical change including patriotism testThe 62-year-old was appointed as the new Cameroon coach at the beginning of April, but he did not meet with Eto’o until two months later. And it immediately started to spark. It seems that the ego of the former Inter Milan and Barcelona striker got worked up, so when shaking hands with Brys, he started a verbal conflict, telling him that “he can’t talk to him that way because he is the president”.Eto’o: “Don’t touch me!”Brys: “Why are you talking to me like that?”Eto’o: “I am the President. If you want to work with us. You’re a coach because I appointed you. You’re not a coach because someone else appointed you. You’ve made many mistakes.”pic.twitter.com/qvP3Qfy7AR— Oluwashina Okeleji (@oluwashina) May 28, 2024 A day later, sitting next to Brys at the press conference, Eto’o called to calm the situation and apologized for the stormy reaction, pointing out that the coach had his support, but the best was yet to come…On Sunday evening, the Indomitable Lions gathered at the Hilton Hotel in Yaounde ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifying games against Cape Verde and Angola. Nevertheless, two coaching staff appeared at the meeting sitting on the opposite ends of the lobby: one appointed by minister Kombi and another selected by Eto’o. And while Brys’ assistants got the keys to their rooms, Eto’o’s associates were unpleasantly surprise at the reception desk as there were no reservations for them so they had to go home.”The reality is that the finances of the Football Federation are so exhausted that they cannot even support one night in a hotel for the Lions,” explained local journalist Jean-Bruno Tagne.##NAJAVA_MECA_8142191##But the story doesn’t end there either… The next morning, the national team was supposed to hold its first training session. The bus arrived in front of the hotel with the necessary equipment, but at one point, according to the Allez Les Lions, at Eto’o’s signal, it returned to the premises of the Football Federation. Realizing the bus was not there, the players decided to walk around the hotel, while the members of the coaching staff went shopping to get balls and other necessary props.”We don’t have balls, we don’t have the necessary equipment… This is not going well. It’s been like this for two days. It’s outrageous! I’ve been doing this business for 26 years and I’ve never had a similar situation. We have to show the public, the 30 million Cameroonians, that even though there are people who want to destroy us, we will fight for the country. See you in the next episode,” stated Brys angrily. To be continued…
