In under two weeks, Borussia Dortmund suffered big losses – captain Marco Reus left the club, then the club lost the Champions League final vs Real, a resignation from coach Edin Terzić shocked everybody yesterday and today, Matts Hummels is also leaving after more than 13 years with the club. Apparently, his clash with Terzić and insisting that the young coach should go led to Edin’s departure, but the club decided to cut ties with the experienced defender as well, and send a clear message to other players and the fan base – nobody is bigger than the club. Out of the blue: Terzić resigns as Borussia’s bossBorussia Dortmund announced today that they have ended the cooperation with Mats Hummels (35) after more than 13 years of successful collaboration, after a conversation held this week between BVB Sports Director Lars Ricken, Sports Director Sebastian Kehl and the players.”Dear fans, my time in black and yellow is now coming to an end after a total of over 13 years. It was a huge honour and joy for me to have played for BVB for so long and to have been part of the journey from 13th place in January 2008 to what Borussia Dortmund represents today. This club and its fans are something very special – and for me even more than that. I keep my fingers crossed that you will all meet up again at Borsigplatz as soon as possible to celebrate. Until then, I will be cheering from afar and hopefully in the stadium from time to time. I will miss you” he wrote for the official website. 🚨 Nuri Şahin will become the new head coach of Dortmund. Official announcement expected soon. 🇹🇷(Source: @GraemeBailey) pic.twitter.com/kgzvB7jw0G— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) June 13, 2024 Still, even thou Hummels and Terzić did have a serious quarrel, that was not the only reason why the coach who took Dortmund to the Champions League finals left one year before the end of his contract. According to many reports, he felt that he was not supported from the inside, or from other executives, apart from CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, who was always his biggest fan. Let’s not forget that even with his support, Terzić was on the verge of a sack after bad series of results in December. And some of those games, like against Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart were the beginning oh the end for Terzić. Not only did he lost those games, he lost the trust of his team, by playing overly defensive against them. Apparently, it was not just Hummels who didn’t like it, but Reus, Niklas Fullkrug and Julian Brandt as well, and those are the player with high authority in the dressing room. His assistants Nuri Sahin and Sven Bender has to mitigate the dressing room. As things stand, Borussia decided to risk it and put Sahin (41) as the new coach. Former Dortmund player is considered a tactical expert and he was the man who joined Terzić’s pool of trainers and fixed things. He is expected to sign a contract in the following days. ##NAJAVA_MECA_8161512##
