Ambitious season finale targets for Ulinzi Stars’ Simiyu

Hillary Simiyu doesn’t think his side Ulinzi Stars are clear from the relegation stand-off yet, at least until the military side has fought their remaining two contests against Kariobangi Sharks and AFC Leopards. This is why, after a lengthy on-off affair with the current FKF Premier league season, the forward wants to end it with at least five goals, and he believes he can.Currently on just one goal, struck during their recent 3-1 loss to already relegated Nzoia Sugar- and his first start of the season too- Simiyu prioritises safety for Ulinzi first even as he pursues personal goals.‘’The only way to steer clear of the zone is by winning the last two matches. We intend to do just that starting by the tie against Sharks tomorrow. By our standards, we shouldn’t be where we are but we have to fight through it first before restrategizing for next season,’’ says the former Nzoia Sugar man.Simiyu had his best season-yet, for Ulinzi last year when, upon returning from the side’s military training, managed double digits in goals. Even though falling half a dozen goals short of the eventual golden boot winners, it was a season that reminded him of his potent goal-scoring abilities. This is the form that he feels he carries now that he is able to start matches for the soldiers.A late injury towards the end of the campaign however, ruled him out for a better part of the current campaign, only showing up occasionally in coach Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani’s side. He says he has overcome the setback.Kenya to seek provisional license for Nyayo Stadium for AFCON qualifiers”It was tough in recovery because both of my ankles were affected at the same time. However, with patience and good medical attention, I have managed to come back even if slowly. The coach gave me a start against Murang’a Seal and against Nzoia I started the match. I took this as a vote of confidence in me and I intend to play my part,’’ he continues.##NAJAVA_MECA_8168041##Ulinzi Stars sit 13th on the log, a tightly contested mid, and relegation zone with teams tying in points and some only getting ahead of the others by virtue of goal difference. Shabana and Sofapaka, who are in the thick of it in relegation threat, are just four points below Ulinzi. Coach Kimani’s side will stay up, and with this, Simiyu promises a more dominant side from the get-go next season.‘’Everyone wants us to go back to where we were in the past seasons. Fighting for the league title and even the domestic cup. That’s where Ulinzi Stars should be and we will do this next season. The coach has taken his time to forge a new unit and maybe this is why we might have stumbled a few times in the league. We were finding our rhythm and I believe we have. Next season will be different,’’ adds the 25 year old who first made his name at Bungoma superstar before Nzoia Sugar.Ulinzi will take on a Sharks side on the roll- having won 7 of their last 8 matches- and Simiyu’s own personal target of five goals for the season should make this a thriller. Signed by current KCB coach Bernard Mwalala before he went for military training, the speedy forward’s clean bill of health is a glimmer of home for Modo’s side.
