Premier Soccer League side (PSL) Mamelodi Sundowns announced on Monday, July 1, the departure of Kenyan international Brian Onyango Mandela and a trio of former players ahead of the new season.Onyango, 29, was in the final year of his contract last season and had for the better part of the campaign been linked with a move-out, owing to his limited playing time for the Dstv Premiership defending champions.Harambee Stars defender Brian Mandela leaves Mamelodi SundownsIn the four years, he was at the club, he made over 61 appearances for Sundowns and scored two goals, but had dropped down the pecking order, making just three starts and nine appearances overall in 2023/24, according to stats provided by iDiski. And while Onyango’s exit might have been expected, Sundowns also announced that joining him at the exit door would be: Thabiso Kutumela, Bongani Zungu, and surprise name Gaston Sirino.Zungu, who began his second stint with Sundowns in 2022, announced his exit last Friday, marking an end to a glamorous career that yielded four league titles, one Nedbank Cup, and one Telkom Knockout, as well as the African Football League title.##NAJAVA_MECA_8186103##Kutumela, on the other hand, spent last season on loan at Cape Town City and was released on the basis of regular minutes being an unlikely guarantee should he have remained at Chloorkop.Sirino, who according to South African publications, had lost trust in team coach Rhulani Mokwena, seems to have fallen out of favour at the club after attempting to pursue a move to Al Ahly two seasons ago.Thank you to our departing players, the Yellow Nation thanks you for your effort and hard work over the years!👆#Sundowns pic.twitter.com/0RxSrYvffR— Mamelodi Sundowns FC (@Masandawana) July 1, 2024 “Thank you to our departing players, the Yellow Nation thanks you for your effort and hard work over the years,” the club statement on Monday read. One other player – Junior Mendieta – according to iDiski Times, is expected to leave the club after just one season for Greek side Volos NFC.
