The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) on Friday 5 July announced the total prize money that will be at stake at this year’s Dar Port Kagame Cup in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) club Gor Mahia is among the participants of the 12-team tournament set to kick off on Tuesday 9 July, and have been pooled in Group B alongside Zambia’s Red Arrows FC, Telkom FC of Djibouti and Al Hilal of Sudan.##NAJAVA_MECA_8197977##And as per the communication by CECAFA executive director John Auka Gecheo, the total prize money will amount to $60,000 (Ksh7,639,200).The amount, sourced from the extended support of His Excellency Paul Kagame from Rwanda, is meant to further promote the growth of football in the CECAFA Zone, and will be distributed among the top three winners of the tournament.President Paul Kagame pledges continued support for regional Kagame CupAs a result, the winners are expected to take home US$30,000 (Ksh3,819,600), with the runner-up cashing in US$20,000 (Ksh2,546,400).The third place finisher on the other hand wins US$10,000 (Ksh1,273,200).In this year’s tournament format, the top team in each of the three groups and the best runners up from any of the groups will automatically qualify for the semi-final stage.The aforementioned Red Arrows FC are the only guest side in the tournament, which will be sponsored by Tanzania Ports Authority and Azam TV.In preparation for the tournament, Gor Mahia has bolstered its squad with three new players namely: Samuel Kapen, Chris Pius Akena and Gedeon Bendeka, and will hope to land a first crown under new head coach Leonardo Martins Neiva.Gor Mahia unveil trio set to bolster club in upcoming Kagame CupThe last time the FKF Premier League champions lifted the tourney was back in 1985, when they beat their arch rivals AFC Leopards 2-0 to lift their third Kagame Cup.The competition’s final is on Sunday 21 July.Groups:Groups A: Coast Union FC (Tanzania), Al Wadi FC (Sudan), JKU SC (Zanzibar), Dekedaha FC (Somalia)Group B: Al Hilal (Sudan), Gor Mahia FC (Kenya), Red Arrows FC (Zambia), Djibouti Telecom (Djibouti)Group C: SC Villa (Uganda), APR FC (Rwanda), Singida Black Stars (Tanzania), El Merriekh Bentiu (South Sudan)
