Rainbow FC have withdrawn from the National Super League (NSL) after barely a season in the competition.The club was promoted to the second tier last year following their triumph as the Football Kenya Federation Division One Zone A champions.The team managed to scout young and exciting talents ahead of their debut in the NSL in a bid to compete for two automatic promotion slots.##NAJAVA_MECA_8228514##Under the tutelage of Erick Macharia, Rainbow had a good take-off in the second tier but struggled in the second leg thanks to the reported financial difficulties.The club finished eleventh with 49 points with their fellow debutants Nairobi United and Luanda Villa settling for fourth and eighth respectively.According to a statement from the club, the decision to bow out of the NSL has been fuelled by several factors among them is the spiralling cost of living and doing business.“Despite our best efforts, the club has found it challenging to operate due to the increased cost of living,” confirmed the club.Michael Olunga Football Academy set to acquire Rainbow FC in merger dealThe club further blamed the conditions set by FKF to clubs heading to the new season for their withdrawal from the competition.Clubs are expected to have a youth team, coaches with CAF B, a women’s team ,medical cover for players, and physical address among others.“The newly introduced prerequisite to participate in the National Super League, have made it increasingly difficult to continue operations at the level expected by our supporters and stakeholders,” added the club.Shabana FC unveil a revamped technical benchMeanwhile, the club is expected to rebrand to Glorions FC and will feature in the FKF Division II Eastern Zone.The Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) are said to eyeing the slot left by Rainbow in the second tier.“Our renewed focus on youth development and preparation for the European market drives our decision to re-enter the FKF Division II Eastern Zone under the new name GLORIONS FC KENYA. “We are committed to continuing our scouting efforts and identifying talented young players, nurturing them to achieve greater heights in their careers,” read part of the statement.
