OPINION: Why proposal by Rachier to increase foreign quota in FKF Premier League is wrong

Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier is planning to appeal to FKF to increase the foreign players quota allowed by an FKF Premier League Club.I explore why that suggestion by Rachier should be defeated, at least for now.Currently, FKF Premier League clubs are allowed to register a maximum of five foreigners in the league. This rule among other things is aimed at protecting the labor space of local based players to showcase their talents.Granted, there was a time the suggestion to increase the foreign quota was valid but as it currently stands, the quota should remain as it is for among others, the following reasons;Free spending Tusker hit the market for Police right-backFKF Premier League clubs should sign foreigners who are exceptional talents that maybe we can not find locally. It is always advisable to use locally available human resources unless there is a need for a peculiar resource that can not be found within the borders. It does not sit well to sign foreigners who seem average and at the level of our players, yet only our best of talents get to make moves outside the country.Secondly, foreign players should at least be the ones who have represented their countries at various categories. There was a period in the past where our league was littered with foreigners who were regulars for their national teams.##NAJAVA_MECA_8256621##The standards were so high that at some point, all five foreign players at Gor Mahia; Abouba Sibomana, Karim Nizigiyimana, Khalid Aucho, Geoffrey Walusimbi and Meddie Kagere were regulars in their respective national teams and you could attest to their quality. The league once boasted talents such as Jacques Tuyisenge, Emery Mvuyekure, Fiston Razak, Baba Kizito, Mussa Mude, Dan Sserunkuma and many others.During these glory days, it made sense to increase the foreign quota. As a matter of fact, No FKF Premier League team currently has even three foreign players who receive call ups to their national teams.Murang’a Seal announce first off-season signingLastly, foreign players should be starters for their clubs and not benchwarmers. Foreigners who watch from the bench more than they start matches must surely give locals the chance to sit on those benches.Last season for instance, Gor Mahia won the league with largely a line up of local based players. What was the importance of Ugandan Patrick Kaddu when the goals were coming from Omalla?##NAJAVA_MECA_8256638##What was the need for Emery Bayisenge when local youngsters Joshua Onyango and Sylvester Owino could keep clean sheets? We should focus on improving our local talents, giving them the platform and only increase the foreign quota once our league attracts quality foreigners who will bring what we cannot find locally. It is for these reasons that FKF must reject Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier’s proposal.
