Harambee Stars to miss Daniel Anyembe in 2025 AFCON qualifier opener against Zimbabwe

Harambee Stars will be without Denmark-based defender Daniel Anyembe during the September 4, 2025, Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zimbabwe. The match will be played in Uganda since Kenya does not have an approved stadium to host FIFA-approved fixtures.Anyembe, who turns out for top-tier side Viborg, is still nursing an injury, according to coach Engin Firat, although the defender has been playing in league and continental matches.##NAJAVA_MECA_8269429##Firat revealed on Monday that he may miss out on a number of foreign-based players due to several reasons.“We have invited our foreign-based players, and already we are experiencing some problems with their availability. Anyembe will not be available again. Masoud Juma has not started training, while Ayub Timbe has not been playing for some time due to a lack of a club. We will certainly be limited offensively and inexperienced,” Firat said.Juma, who is based in Saudi Arabia, has been nursing a severe Achilles tendon injury he sustained at the beginning of this year.EXCLUSIVE: Harambee Stars winger Ayub Timbe set for Turkish moveHe underwent surgery and consequently missed the past two international matches against Burundi and Ivory Coast. Timbe, who has been without a club since cutting ties with Azerbaijani side FK Sabail, recently signed for Turkish division two side Ankaraspor Kulubu on a two-year deal and may not have the required match fitness to feature for Harambee Stars. Why Omala’s move to Lebanon is a high-stakes gambleAt the same time, Firat has expressed disappointment at having to play away against Zimbabwe though it is Kenya’s match.“It is not what we expected. We have played just one game at home since the FIFA ban was lifted. It is psychologically tough for the players, but we shall do our best to try and handle it,” he said. This is the second time Harambee Stars are playing their matches away from home, as they were forced to play Ivory Coast and Burundi in Malawi during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which were hosted in Malawi.
