Long before Bayern Munich started it‘s 11 years of consecutive domination in Bundesliga (broken up by Leverkusen last season), Borussia Dortmund were German champions under Jurgen Klopp. His successor Thomas Tuchel lasted two seasons and left in 2017. After that, BVB changed no less than seven coaches in a seven year span. So, every coach lasts for about one season in Dortmund. Clearly, the executives of the German giants are not succesfull in that department, or the pressure is too big. The likes of Peter Bosz, Peter Stöger, Lucien Favre, Marco Rose, Edin Terzić (twice) all failed and now Nuri Sahin has a tough task. While Tuchel and Edin Terzić left mainly due to internal issues within the club, other managers were sacked due to bad results. He played football with current director Sebastian Kehl and knows CEO Lars Ricken for years. While still playing, he learned from his coaches Jürgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and José Mourinho, watched them during training, listened to what they said and stored their ideas – in order to form his own thoughts from the bundle of experiences. He has that opportunity now, as he faces almost impossible task – to be better than his precceder Edin Terzić, who managed to come all way to the Champions League final last year. Still, he has two great advantages, but also two potential problems at the start of his mandate as BVB boss.Bundesliga preview: Behold, Bayern is not the top favorite for the titleDuring his playing days, Sahin has been a loved player in Borussia‘s locker room, and he will surely have supporter‘s backing, at least for some time. Same goes for the club‘s executives and the majority of current players, as he was Terzić‘s assistant for the second part of the season, and everybody already know him. Also, the sporting department brought him some quality players, which he approved: Serhou Guirassy and Waldemar Anton (both Stuttgart), Pascal Groß (Brighton), Yan Couto (Manchester City) and Maximilian Beier (Hoffenheim). Former Arsenal director on the brink of sackBut he has a problem with one of the directors as it has been reported he clashed with former Arsenal‘s director Sven Mislintat due to his mingling with tactics and player recruitment, which is something he did way back in 2017 and was banished from the training ground by then coach Thomas Tuchel. Also, he can‘t get rid of Youssoufa Moukoko, who is destined for the bench next season, but has a huge wage of 8.5 million euro annual salary, which Dortmund wants to get back. So far, dealings with both Betis and Marseille failed as the Millionairs don‘t want to sell the player under 15-20 million euros. For the time being, he will remain on the bench and won‘t be involved in today‘s game with Frankfurt. Dortmund are unbeaten in their last six meetings with Frankfurt, winning five, and have only lost one of the previous 15 (2-1, 2020/21). Donyell Malen was Dortmund’s top scorer in the Bundesliga last season with 13 goals – one more than Frankfurt counterpart Omar Marmoush.BUNDESLIGA – MATCHDAY 1FridayM’ gladbach – Leverkusen 2-3 (0-1)/Elvedi 59, Kleindienst 85 – Xhaka 12, Wirtz 38, 101/Saturday16:30: (2.30) Augsburg (3.45) Werder (3.05)16:30: (3.20) Freiburg (3.45) Stuttgart (2.10)16:30: (1.67) Hoffenheim (3.90) Holstein Kiel (5.00)16:30: (2.05) Mainz (3.45) Union Berlin (4.10)16:30: (1.30) RB Leipzig (5.90) Bochum (9.00)19:30: (1.75) Dortmund (3.80) Eintr.Frankfurt (4.60)Sunday16:30: (6.50) Wolfsburg (4.40) Bayern (1.50)18:30: (2.25) St.Pauli (3.40) Heidenheim (3.20)***odds are subject to change***
