Gittens scores first career brace in a Dortmund win

It’s been four long years since Jamie Bynoe-Gittens came to Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City. The BVB’s new Jadon Sancho was a 16-year old kid, was young, inexperienced, witnessed COVID season and a tough injury, but now looks like ready to finally make his mark. Maybe not from the start, but he has Donyell Mallen’s substitute, came in and scored his first career brace in a dull and tough game against Eintracht: Borussia -Frankfurt 2-0.Young Gittens changed his name ahead of this season and took father’s advice to get rid of Bynoe. He also made an impression on new coach Nuri Sahin who said that the kid is ’ brutally good at one-on-ones’ so he let him into the game with half an hour to go, with a score 0-0. He used his individual qualities to strike a beauty for the lead 12 minutes later and his speed to finish the counter-attack in the 93rd minute for the final 2-0. In fact it was only one real opportunity, and it was by Frankfurt in the 71st minute. Niels Nkounkou made a great cross into the goal area but Chaibi managed to miss from five meters. Next attack after that was the one in which Gittens scored the winner. If this match should be explained by one word, it would be ’but’. The whole match was a mixture of quick pace, good run-ins, good passes in to the final third…but there were no real chances (apart from the already described one). Ekitike was great in one-on-one duels with Borussia defenders, but never provided a final pass, or a goal. Mallen tried to be more usefull on the left wing, but Kristensen was always there. Marmoush was in a couple of good situations in the penalty area, but never used them properly, and we can go on and on, but…we have to finish this report. The only good thing from this game will be the three points. Sahin must work harder if he wants to be in the mix for the title come May 2025.
