Sweet victory for Mara Sugar as FKFPL debutants thrash Homeboyz in season opener

Mara Sugar have announced their arrival in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League in the best way possible after thrashing Kakamega Homeboyz 3-0 at the Awendo Green Stadium. The newbies were expected to come out second best considering their lack of experience, quiet pre-season and the fact that they appointed a new head coach just hours to the game. However, Mara, who are under the tutelage of George Midenyo, produced a statement win, underlying their intentions to compete in the top tier rather than participating. ##GEOTARGET_BANNER_8290273##Samuel Otieno was the hero of the match as he grabbed a brace with defensive midfielder Mathias Isogol adding the third in what was a dominant and brave display by the newcomers. Interestingly, Isogol joined Homeboyz two years ago only to be axed, under unclear circumstances, without playing a competitive match for the former Mozzart Bet Cup winners. While Mara tasted sweet victory in their opener, Mathare United whom they were promoted with were on the receiving end of a heavy defeat at the hands of AFC Leopards. The 2008 league winners were hoping for a smooth return to the top tier, after a season in the Super League, but fell 4-0 to AFC Leopards at Dandora Stadium. CAFCL: Gor Mahia sets date with Ahly after handing Merreikh football lessonsRwandese striker Arthur Gitego opened the scoring flow with Boniface Munyendo adding the second goal. Victor Omune and debutant Sydney Lokale added the extras for Ingwe who automatically stay at the top given their goal difference. Meanwhile, it wasn’t a good return to the top flight dugout for coach Danstun Nyaudo as Ulinzi Stars lost 1-0 to Murang’a Seal at the Lang’ata Sports Complex. Posta Rangers set to sign Ksh10 million shirt sponsorship dealJoe Waithira scored the all-important goal for Seal, who are in their second season in the top tier, in the second half.
