New coach, new players. After the resignation of Gareth Southgate, the English FA obviously felt that currently there are no good candidates to replace the departing manager. They also felt that the interim manager will be well equipped to lead the Three Lions through the League of Nations so they decided to give Lee Carsley, a U21 coach, the keys of the national team. Ahead of the opening games against Republic of Ireland in Dublin on 7 September and Finland at Wembley on 10 September, Carsley announced his list, and it has a few surprises. Here’s Lee Carsley’s first #ThreeLions squad! 👀— England (@England) August 29, 2024 Like any other new coach in the world, Carsley wants to feel as much comfortable as possible on the new job, so he decided to call some of his U21 players, who played under him. Lille winger Gomes, Newcastle defender Livramento, Nottingham Forest midfielder Gibbs-White and Chelsea winger Madueke all played for Carsley during his time as England Under-21 manager and they were all invited. He also decided to call Jack Grealish, who was ommited from the EURO 2024 team, but followed Southgate‘s footsteps and left Marcus Rashford out. Unlike his preceeder, Carsley concluded that Luke Shaw will remain injured one way or another and left him out too. Jude Bellingham is also injured and won‘t play. It was expected that Arsenal‘s Ben White will come back, since Southgate‘s backroom stuff also left, but he remains out of the team for the upcoming matches.”As far as I am aware, White wasn’t available for selection and nothing has changed in my two weeks. That’s where we are at with it,” said Carsley.England finally name Southgate’s successorBrentford striker Ivan Toney, Manchester City defender Kyle Walker and Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who all went to Euro 2024 have not been invited now, just like Tottenham midfielder James Maddison.
