Out of the eight games so far under Maresca (friendlies included), Chelsea made it with clean sheet only twice, against America and Servette, in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League qualifications playoff. The next interesting thing was a penalty 10 minutes later. Veiga brought Mudryk down and Christopher Nkunku was precise with the ball for the lead. But from their first chance of the match, the hosts equalized. It was their best player Kutesa in the 32nd minute who went through Chelsea midfield with ease and assisted to Guillemenot for 1-1. Servette nearly turned the game over completely two minutes before the break, but Kutesa‘s shot was saved by Jorgensen. And instead of finishing the game in the second half, the Blues allowed Servette to play the best they could and the second goal came in the 73rd minute, with just enough time to boost the home crowd. After Crivelli‘s goal, the hosts needed just one more to take the game into overtime. Jackson provided a cold shower at the stadium with his goal in the 77th minute, but VAR overturned it quickly. Criveli nearly got the second minutes after and Maresca had to rely on Cole Palmer to score a much needed second goal. The England international hit the bar once and assisted to both Nkunku and Jackson, but they both missed.
