Roma fans announce protests over De Rossi firing

On Wednesday morning, Roma boardroom sacked Daniele De Rossi “in the interest of the team”. Owner Dan Friedkin reached for a radical move and after just four Serie A rounds dismissed the man who was said not so long ago to enjoy the maximum confidence of the executive and signed a contract extension. Friedkin immedieatly found a solution – Ivan Jurić signed until the end of he season and will lead the team against Udineze this week. At one point it looked like he got away with it, but Roma fans have organized themselves and will make a protest on Sunday. Apart from that, locker room leaders also went to the club’s executives and demanded an explanation for De Rossi’s sacking. Two team leaders asked for clarification of the decision in an ‘intense confrontation’. Pellegrini and Mancini also asked why the club had called other players on Monday to know their opinions on De Rossi. Among the footballers consulted by directors on Monday were Paulo Dybala and Leandro Paredes, who insisted that the whole team backed their coach. While not a complete boycott, the fans will be deserting the stands for the traditional pre-match warm-up and the singing of the club anthem.
