Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Kipchumba Murkomen has weighed in on the term limits of Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials insisting that the Sports Act must be observed.The CS was appearing before a National Assembly committee on Wednesday 25 September to answer questions on matters pertaining to his docket when he addressed the election matter.Responding to a question by Dagoretti South MP Kiarie John alias KJ who had asked for the ministry’s position on officeholders who want to vie despite serving their second terms, Murkomen said they have addressed the matter through the registrar of sportsGor Mahia duo indefinitely suspended, set to face disciplinary committee“A letter has been sent to FKF from the sports registrar and it is clear that under the Sports Act, no one will run for office for more than two terms,” said the former Transport CS.However, he said that FKF officials who are serving their second term are eligible to vie for other positions within the federation.“I believe that if FKF officials who have served for two terms want to run for office, (they should run for) maybe for a different office other than the one they are currently holding,” he added.##NAJAVA_MECA_8361346##The former Elgeyo Marakwet Senator also disclosed that he will have discussions with the FKF elections board with a view to finding a neutral area of operations.“We have the elections board. I am going to have a meeting with them to see if we can lend them a neutral government facility to operate their activities from, and whether we can find ways of supporting them technically through IEBC,” he stated.The CS was however cautious on how this will be handled noting that it is not in the position of the government to handle the elections but they will oversight and advice for the greater benefit of the country##NAJAVA_MECA_8361381##“This is in our oversight responsibility even if we are not the ones running the elections directly to ensure that independence is achieved.
